About

Born and raised in Louisiana, Deon exhibited perseverance by working full-time while completing her undergraduate studies at Louisiana State University, where she earned a Bachelor's degree in Mass Communications with a minor in Political Science. During her time at LSU, she also competed for Miss Louisiana.

Following graduation, Deon served as Executive Assistant to Governor Bobby Jindal, where she honed her organizational and leadership skills in a fast-paced political environment. She later held the position of Executive Director of America Next, furthering her experience in public policy and administration.

In 2021, Deon began law school at Southern University Law Center as a single mother, determined to build a career advocating for families in crisis. While in law school, she gained valuable legal experience with the 19th JDC Public Defender’s Office, the Law Office of Elizabeth Goree, and the Louisiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence. She also served as a teaching assistant and was an executive board member of the Children and Family Law Society, where she helped promote awareness and reform in the field of family law.

Now a licensed attorney in Louisiana, Deon serves as the Staff Attorney at the Iris Domestic Violence Center. In this role, she provides trauma-informed legal representation and advocacy to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking, with a focus on protection order matters.

Deon also writes for Red Stick Mom as a contributing writer.
